2023 Ohio ScriptureFest

The Gospel of Matthew — "That it Might be Fulfilled"

2023 Chapters/Passages (Now Available for Registration)

For the 2023 Ohio ScriptureFest, our passages & chapters are primarily from the Gospel of Matthew and nearly all of OT prophecies, laws, and historical figures he references throughout his Holy-Spirit-inspired book.

Matthew’s Gospel focuses much of its attention on showing Jesus Christ as the long-awaited Messiah and heir to King David’s earthly throne. In order to establish that, he references the Old Testament with its prophecies, laws, and historical figures more than any other NT book.

Matthew also contains some of Christ’s greatest sermons, including the 3-chapter Sermon on the Mount, which is a divinely masterful sermon with EVERY read. Much can be taken from the book of Matthew for doctrine, for instruction, for its many parables, and even its own prophecies. By inserting the OT references it makes into the very chapters and verses in Matthew when they’re actually made, we hope to bring the OT to life in a new, refreshing manner, demonstrating how those ancient words were ALWAYS a part of God’s sovereign plan in their ultimate fulfillment in Jesus Christ in the book of Matthew (and the rest of the New Testament).

Our mission, if you choose to accept it, is to select and recite at least 1 passage(s)/chapter(s) as an individual, couple, or family/group ensemble in the various forms of recitation that are offered. NO AGE LIMITS!!!!  Individuals, couples, families, and groups can initially sign up for no more than 2 passages/chapters per family unit. All registrants are encouraged to pray about and reserve each chapter and passage with an established idea of how he or she intends to use their selected recitation(s) to edify & bless others, as well as bring glory to God.

Passage/Chapter requests are ONLY to be made using the downloaded VerseLocker App (link is on the Register page). When a passage/chapter is reserved on VerseLocker, it will also be crossed out on the list BELOW as soon as we are alerted to the VerseLocker registration. (Please Note: Passage/Chapter reservations will be updated on this page by 10am EST, the day following their reservation, if not sooner.)

For those who like to dramatize their recitation with emotional expression, related props & wardrobe, and even assisting, but not disruptive or distracting, sound effects, are able to do so; but all props, wardrobe & relevant effects should be disclosed in advance to OHSF organizers to receive advance approval. This year’s passages/chapters provide MANY opportunities to dramatize!!

The Ohio ScriptureFest strives for excellence in the handling of God’s Word. While we desire for all Bible recitations to be enjoyable for the orator, we especially want it to be edifying for the hearers; therefore, in reserving even 1 passage/chapter, we always request that all who make reservations, whether for a “straight” recitation or dramatization, have their chapter(s) fully memorized and mastered, at least, four weeks in advance of their scheduled performance (i.e., by the end of May 2023). Event organizers might require any & all scheduled reciters to either perform their chapter(s) in advance, upon request, if local to our event, or submit video/audio evidence by the beginning of June 2023.

Event organizers reserve the right to reassign or reduce chapter recitations in the event of cancellation, due to illness, injury, family tragedy, travel delays, other unforeseen circumstances, or lack of necessary preparation in order to recite satisfactorily (according to Event Guidelines & Standards).

The 2023 OHSF passages/chapters are listed below:

PLEASE NOTE: ALL PASSAGES are listed in the CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER in which they are to be recited, including those on each numbered line.

(NOTE: The Micah 5:2-5a passage in #7 below is listed as Micah 5:2-5 on VerseLocker; however, all that needs to be memorized for v. 5 is the first line: “And this Man/One shall be [the] peace…”)

(EXTRA NOTE: Some OT passages are listed more than once below, because they are referenced multiple times in Matthew; so multiple people will be reciting the same OT passage at different times in Matthew.)

(EXTRA, EXTRA NOTE: Please remember that selections listed below with 4 VERSES OR LESS are reserved for children 6 years of age or younger << UPDATE: Family Units that have already reserved 2 passages/chapters for their family may STILL reserve up to 1 MORE of these 4-verses-or-less passages for those 6 years old and under in their family!! >>; while selections listed below with 5-6 VERSES TOTAL are reserved for those folks ONLY who are attending the Ohio ScriptureFest for their first OR second time.)

1) Review the passages below. 2) Select the one or two you’d like to recite at the event. 3) Make your reservation on the VerseLocker App by going to THE LINK on our Passage Reservation Page. 4) If your selection(s) is already taken, come back here to find another one or two you’d like to reserve.
